3.slow power
« on: Aug 10, 2014, 07:52:51 AM »
Has anyone tried using an 3mil over bore throttle body on a 3L? I Have one and was wondering what I need to look out for, or any other things I might need to do?

Didn't think they had any effect on efi engines.

FWIW, no one upgrade will make much difference in the 3.0's performance, to see any real gains you have to upgrade both the intake system and exhaust(including headers).

Well gentelman....i have a 3.0 in my runner and the thing runs like a raped ape. Its no where near stock, but it will def out perform a 3.4 any day of the week. I will have a thread on my standalone kit im gonna install from LCE soon. Then it will really wake up. And yes i would assume the throttle body will make a diff. Also one of the main things that really chokes the 3.0 is the crappy exhaust manifold design......its a headache. I have LCE headers and i built a custom 2 1/4 full y-pipe and exhaust. Also make sure that the TB has all ports necessary, including the coolant passage. Critical for fuel atomization and idle.

If my 3.slow had twice the power it does now I'd still think it was underpowered. I'm at the point where I'm not going to put any money into it other than gas and oil. It's not worth it in my opinion. There are better options out there.

Well of coarse there are better options out there. I have a 6.0 Gen3 sitting in my garage i could have slapped in there, but i wanted to stay original as possible. I had my engine built out of Eugine OR. bored 40 over, ARP studs, cams, headers, intake, full custom exh, i mean my dad has a 75 FJ40 with a SBC and i hang with him and that cruiser smashes. I literally have had tons of people ask me if i had a v8. But yes there is tons of things you can do......i just like to have mine street legal and not have to deal with a ref or anything. Also if you are under geared its going to affect the hell out of your rig.......especially if your an automatic.
