N20 Toyota Opinions needed...
« on: May 02, 2014, 05:39:56 PM »
So I sold my 80 series, before that my 85... Really wasn't planing on another toy for a few years. I have been bugging my father in-law about his 75 Toyota N20 for years. Never really thought he would let go of it, well he said if I want it we could make a deal.

Now it is bone stock, runs good! The bad is its a 3 speed auto...

I want to sas it, keep it low with 33-34" tires and daily drive it. I think a divorced transfer case will be my best bet for 4wd. Not sure if a samurai case will be strong enough or move to a divorced dana 300. Nissan makes divorced cases too...

Specs would be
20r
3 speed auto (has to stay auto or the wife will say no)
Dana 300?
Mini truck axles
High steer front
Power steering-need to add
33 tires

Second round
Gears
Lockers
More power

I would really like to be able to add t-case gears latter, 3.5 to 4.5 reduction range. Keep the door open to possible larger engine with an auto transmission.

I feel like I'm killing a very original truck... But it has a few issues, brakes and suspension...

Lifted FZJ80 on 34.24534752" Tires...

If it were me...
I would use an auto transmission and transfer case that came behind a 22-R or RE. That way everything would bolt up and work well together and it would stay all TOYOTA. I would avoid a divorced case unless you had no other options, and you do have alternatives.
