I was under the impression that was quite common.
A buddy had a turbo'd truck and i think the same thing had happened before he got it, and for some reason i think the PO may have had it welded up? I don't remember honestly.
Maybe do some research and see if anybody could repair what you have? Anyways i don't know much about the turbo'd trucks so i don't know if that is a possibility, it's late and im tired, but it was just a suggestion.
