A buddy of mine and I were rinding down the road near my house and saw it at a gas station and we decided that we had to back for a better look. When we got back we started talking to the guy about it and he said that he was hard up for cash and was going to sell it. We got his # and called him the next day to see if we could ride out and take a better look at it. 2 days later my buddy bought it.

As soon as he sells his '96 Taco it is going to go under the cutter.

Thanks 'bout the avatar. There is no rust on the frame. It is running rich and has a vacuum leak and some body cancer but that is it. We are gonna put new fenders and rear quarters in it and repaint it.

We are gonna put gears-n-lockers in it along w/ a birfield eliminator kit, dual cases w/ 4.7 in one, hysteer, wide rear axle 38x12.50 on those Trailready beadlocks that I had for sale. I'm building front and rear bumpers for it. Look at this fix

I think that I'm gonna build a hybrid front spring pack for it. You wouldn't believe how quiet it is and how good it rides!

Birf eliminators are weak. they are just barely above the stock stuff int he strength department. Id get Bobby's CroMo setup and be done. The engine is a waste. The 21ru is a boat anchor, find a 22r to replace it and your buddy will be much happier with it. All in all a decent find. Have fun with the buildup.

We're gonna sell the engine. Already got an EFI setup waitin', those are the axles he's gettin. We ran across a guy today who sold us 2 EFI intakes and 1 tranny w/ top shift tcase for $75.

I was going to say the same thing about the 21R. At 2.0 liters, its a bit small for a wheeling toy. Strange how the 20R is 200cc larger (approx) and the 22R is 400cc larger (approx)

The 21R must acts more like an 18R in the fact that it revs better then the larger R-versions, but at 15 ft-lbs less torque and a 1,200 rpm higher power band it might not come awake unless you rev it, especially since its Carb and doesn't have the broader power band found with an EFI.

But for jus' $1500 bucks you cant go wrong!! Great find and I'm sure you guys are gonna tear up the trails once finished

yea that jap-spec peice is poo. I heard the you could bore it out to 22r bore size and use 22r pistons but ill prolly just build a 22r and swap it out the way i stay rollin ya know, also who makes a soft spring for that thing that'll give me about 6-7 inches of lift without being stiff as a board?
