Exhaust line

On a 22re, what is the line for that runs behind the engine that connects the exhaust and intake? Can this be removed and sealed?

EGR crossover tube. You could take it off plug it but that's like cutting off your pinky finger because it gets in the way when you pick your nose....

Seriously it keep NOX in check and has a quenching effect on combustion temperatures which keeps NOX within acceptable limits. As an added benefit, it also reduces the engine's octane requirements which lessens the danger of detonation.

It may do all Rocksurfer says, I don't know and never looked into it. But it can be removed,All of that stuff has been removed from my engine and plugged.
It may not be legal to do where you are thou.
