Does anyone know if the rubber seal is still needed when replacing the shift lever seat with a marlin after market one. I tore my truck apart and the old seat was gone I cleaned it all up and put in the new marlin seat without the seal, it helped a bit and the truck does not pop out of first as much but still does sometimes. I tried to re-install the marlin seat with the old seal in place and could not get the cap to twist on. Do I just need to try harder or is the after market seat not designed to use a seal?

don't need it with the marlin..... the old stock one was the plastic piece and the rubber piece molded together as 1 piece

jimbo answered your question, but I'd like to share that Step #1 of our Heavy Duty Shifter Seat Installation guide lists to remove the piece and does not list to reuse it.

After reading both it and this thread, I will add to the installer that the rubber piece is not used after it is removed to clear up any confusion.

Regards,
BigMike

Ok I've added "and discard" as follows,
Quote
1. Remove and discard your old Toyota seat and rubber insulator fully exposing the aluminum.

That sounds a bit better

merace19, please reply and let us know what you think of the new shifting performance once you've ran around the block on a test drive  :driving:

Thanks!
