my a340f
« on: Dec 03, 2013, 10:27:53 AM »
I'm not expert on auto trannys. But I do like my auto in my truck. How ever it does not work like I would expect it to. I have  spool in the rear with 4.88 gears turning 35. On the road it barley sees over drive but it always tends to shift to fast so I shift it manually. I understand that is lack of power.
But off road in low range it hates to sit there with my foot on the brake.and will stall the truck. And if I don't make the climb it will stall the truck if it rolls backwards a little bit. I like to crawl so I'd hate to put a high stall torque stall converter in it. The tranny shifts perfect and I'm not sure if I really have anything to worry about but  I'm wondering if this is normal or just something I can fix. Thanks for all the help.

I've been running an A340F for years and on the road it isn't the best mostly because I have 4.88's and 36's. I need 5.29's and I wish the 5.71's would be trustworthy instead.
Off road I don't see the issue you are speaking off at all, even with dual cases in low low I can hold it back without stalling. Stopping on a hill has never been an issue either. I wish I could say I had a solution. Only thiing I can think of is maybe the TV cable isn't adjusted right or as a very rare possibility the TC is locking when it shouldn't.

Well thanks. I do wish you had the solution to lol. I wish I went with 5:29s also.

I'm gonna play with kick down cable a little I can tell it's not froze up. The only other symptom it has is when I was driving on the road it never liked to kick down and it would always shift to early witch I would blame on the over sized tiers.

Oversize tires and gear changes messes up shift timing for sure.
