You and me both pal.  Google Sketch up was boring after 2 bumpers.  Lorena Rubalcava(I think I that is her last name) at Solidworks was very helpful.  No free hand outs though.

I have heard there are free SW downlowds out there, but they scare me.  I won't risk a virus.     That means no porn... :gap:

Draftsight is free also. There are some other free ones but they are typically 2D drafting. If you want good 3D then you'll have to pay. I use Geomagic/Alibre and Solidworks, I prefer SW but can't afford it for home so I use Alibre which s almost as good and a bunch cheaper.

I was complaining to our IT guy a while back that Solidworks licenses were too expensive for guys who want to just fool around and design stuff for themselves. He said that if you work for a company that purchases X amount of SW professional seats, that DS Solidworks allows you to piggyback off those licenses for use on a personal computer. I spoke with our corporate IT manager to confirm, and I now have a legitimate copy of SW2013 on my home computer.

Ruegs if that is your real name?  I can do the same here too, but it's just easier to keep it all in Alibre for now. But when I grow up I'm buying Solidworks.

Understandable. It's easier for me to stick with SW since that's what learned in school and use a work.
