Two 4wd indicator lights?
« on: Oct 22, 2013, 04:17:13 PM »
So I got a SR5 gauge pod from a 1st gen 4runner I am not sure exactly what year it came out of.  It has a 4 wheel drive indicator in it.  Now the question is I am doing dual t cases, can I have the dash indicator for the 4 wheel drive turn on with one case and the gauge pod indicator turn on when I shift the second case in to 4 low low?

Your 4wd indicator light is turned on by a switch on the case that is activated by the shift rail for 2wd/4wd selection. The crawl box only has the low/high rail so you wont have a switch like in the rear case.

You could probably rig an external switch on the linkage to turn on the light if you wanted to.

The gauge pod you have is probably from a tercel and not a 4runner. 4wd tercels had a dash mounted pod similar to the 4runner but if you look closely the axle pattern view shows the front wheels illuminated and the rear comes on when in 4wd... The 4runner pod should have an elevation meter with no 4wd indicator. Or I could be wrong haha

this is a tercel pod:

Yep that is what I have.  I got if from a pile of parts that a guy had laying around.  He got if from someone or didn't know where it originated.  The original gauge pods for the 4runner run about $150 at a toyota junk yard.  They are supper expensive and as soon as they get one it is spoken for and gone.  I will have to check the light and see if the back illuminates or the front.  I wonder if I can switch out the one gauge.  My dad has an SR5 4runner that is totaled with the pod in it, but won't let any parts come off of it.  I may just take that one rather than the one I got.

here is what i did to get the 4wd light to work on my dash for my crawler box..   i will be running tripples and have done this to both of my crawl boxes plus the main t-case...

I basically cut the other shift fork in half or so and instead of just welding the piece of keystock to the high/low fork I ended up welding part of the other shift fork on the existing shift fork...

the never ending build...
