« on: Oct 18, 2013, 11:05:00 PM »
  Traded a few parts for a R151 trans+case.
Bought a r150 for 80
and have (4) w56
all waiting to be torn into....

I just ordered Marlins 10 degree 23 spline dual case adapter.....

Any pointers????? Anything should be useful. Knowledge is great. Bring the brains!

I'm watching this one :)

From what I've seen and tried, it requires a number of special tools, most you can make or buy. Not an easy task so take your time and lay things out in clear order.

You NEED a press, bearing splitter, various pullers and snap ring pliers and a FSM. You can make some of the special tools.

Google "rebuilding r151f" I don't have the link anymore but there is a good write up with pics I "think" on Pirate.

I rebuilt my R151F and fabbed a bracket to hold the trans properly on the press and IIRC three different diameter pieces of pipe were used to press various sections apart or together. I have large 3/4" drive sockets that also come in handy to press various parts and seals on or off. All the info was in that thread.

Download the FSM as a guide and take pics. Pay close attention to the detent balls and pins in the linkage.

You will also need a dial indicator and mics to measure things.

I do have a FSM. I do not plan to tear into the transmission section as i do not wish to spend an extra 400$ on the rebuilt kit and shipping....

What i have so far:

23 SPLINE DUAL ADAPTER
R151 COMPLETE
R150 COMPLETE
W56 COMPLETE

Still waiting on 4.7s to come in

You lost me. You posted "Building my first TRANS". You listed three different transmissions and a dual adapter. Not sure what you are asking.
