Government shutdown...
« on: Oct 08, 2013, 05:16:48 PM »
So, with the Gov. shutdown, what has affected you, and where?

So, they have closed down Sandlake, and all the other sand rec areas on the Oregon coast.  There are still access to the dunes, through private land.  Which owners are charging outrageous prices just to let you in.

Our Government's "Fiscal Cliff" put in better perspectives:

Lesson # 1:

    U.S. Tax Revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
    Federal Budget: $3,820,000,000,000
    New Debt: $1,650,000,000,000
    National Debt: $14,271,000,000,000
    Recent Budget cuts: $38,500,000,000

Let's now remove 8 zeros and pretend it's a household budget:

    Annual family income: $21,700
    Money the family spent: $38,200
New debt on the credit card: $16,500
Outstanding balance already on the credit card: $142,710
Total budget cuts so far: Only $385

Lesson # 2:

Here's another way of looking at the Debt Ceiling:

Let's say you come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood and your home has sewage all the way up to your ceilings.  What do you think you should do?

Raise the ceiling or remove the crap?

Good post BigMike.  I like the removal of the zeroes. It makes it hit home for the regular folks.

Shutdown the NWR I was going to hunt in this weekend. Been planning the trip for months. Decided we'd make the most of it and hunt the NF land, only to find out that the camping areas in them are closed also. Despite the "closures", there are officers at every gate and campground to keep people from trespassing and/or poaching the kings game. They don't staff that heavy when things are open. Luckily we found a campsite on a STATE park and a few STATE run WMA's to hunt. This'll be my first trip in the runner.

steveco.- Thanks for risking your life for everyone and I hope you get paid soon!

State depts are still open. Our California state dept was at the 4WD Expo in Pomona, CA last weekend and had a nice display with many workers/employees on hand.

FLARDArunner- Hope your first run in your truck goes well! Post up some pics!! :snapshot:

If its a state ran area that gets federal money, its closed.  and like said, its costing more money to keep people out of campgrounds, than if they were left open and getting money for camping there.   :shake_head:  It just shows how stupid our government is!!

South Carolina man tries to mow lawn outside Lincoln memorial
Chris Cox says he just wanted the area to look nice ahead of this weekend’s Million Vet March. The Park Service workers normally tasked with cutting the lawn were furloughed when the government shutdown.
