« on: Sep 19, 2013, 05:11:51 PM »
Searched with no luck. Was wondering if any of you crawler guys know of or is using high output water pump for 22re engine?

Thanks in advance

Never heard of one.

But I know if you look hard enough you can find a high output oil pump from the 22RTE's.

Why would you need high output.  You don't get any advantage from having water flow faster through the system.

If your not having coolant issues, but want better cooling, get a V6 radiator.

Na, no cooling issue. Figure if I'm going change out normal wear and tear parts, might as well put something good in.

been running with 3 row radiator and +1qt oil cooler.

high flow = transfer heat from the block/head faster to the radiator = better cooling system :)

Just like having a worn out water pump = less flow of coolant throughout the system = over heating  ;)

Thanks for the input.

MADE IN JAPAN pump will go back on, not MADE IN CHINA.

Not sure about a faster flowing pump.  But I would assume a larger volume (bigger radiator) would help with cooling.  At least that makes sense to me.

I think I would stick with an OEM or OES radiator in either case.  And maybe some 'water wetter' or similar coolant additive that slightly reduces drag.  I would think old water hoses and lines might impede flow also.  I would also make sure I had a manual switch fan making sure to use the factory or same dimension shroud.

Just some thoughts.

Good Luck!!

Your best bet would be to find a pump that has a cast impeller, not a bent/stamped piece of metal.

I always understood that if you moved the coolant to fast, it wouldn't be able to "soak" up the heat and transfer to the radiator for proper cooling.  Am I wrong in thinking this?  I understand your point of view, but what other thoughts are there?

And why is a cast impeller better that the stamped metal type?

I'm thinking the cast vs stamp because the tolerances should be tighter and create a better vortex and higher output pressure and volume. It's all up to your thermostat though really. moving water more efficiently is great but as the last guy said. the water will sit back soaking in heat till the t-stat opens. Higher pressure won't change how well that works. I'd buy the quality pump just so my seals last and bearings are long lasting parts.

lol, no...

the thermostat has a small opening for a reason; it's like that to slow down the flow of coolant, so that the coolant has time to absorb the heat, on the way to the radiator.

going slightly off topic... removing the thermostat will appear to make the engine run cooler, but in reality it only looks like that because the coolant isn't soaking up the heat... the temp gauge reads lower, but the engine itself is running hotter.

not what you want on an efi motor.
