I just got my first FJ40. plans are for a big change
« on: Sep 16, 2013, 04:26:45 AM »
I just got a 66 FJ40.  pretty much stock except for a 350 chev. I also have a 4'' lifted 86 GMC suburban, 383 sbc, turbo 400, auburn in front, gov lock in back. 36'' swampers.
the plan is to lift the body off the burban frame and shorten it, put the FJ40 body on the burban frame. shouldn't be too bad of a swap.
anybody do this? input is welcome!

I'd bet that you'd be way ahead sticking with the FJ40 frame & just swapping everything over to it. You already have the motor mounts for the V8, so sounds like T case cross member for the TH400, relocating rear spring pads on rear axle to mount SOA to stock or reversed FJ40 springs, out board the '40's front spring hangers, drive shafts, &  Saginaw cross over high steer / steering column. Part the rest out, what doesn't sell, call up a wrecker to take to the scrap yard
