82 PU Build
« on: Jan 31, 2013, 07:56:23 PM »
 :turtlehead:
Hey guys so I just bought my first 1st gen for $3000 here in Cali and thought I should make a build thread . The speedo says 150000 but its no longer working so im not sure how many times its either rolled over or just died out. It was straight piped when I got it because the cat was stolen but I already welded a new one on. The interior was pretty clean  and had some rancho rs5000's on it too.  I'm pretty happy with the buy, the only thing  I'm not happy with is the fact that its only a 4spd. I'll get some pictures up in a little bit but for now ill put a link for a video of a walk around

I forgot to mention that need a few gaskets and my tranny is making a weird noise but no gears are slipping or having trouble. My exhaust manifold is ticking too.

I'm happy with your buy too,  nice shape, hard to find.   Don't stress over the 4-speed it's an easy swap when the time comes but for now just run it.  If it's your DD and a long commute throw some 31-32" on it.  Maybe someone will chime in, are the 4-spd trans noisey?

It's going to be my dd but I don't commute far because I'm only 5min away from school. I want to run 37s with 5.29 so it evens out right. Yes my trans is noisy but I'm not sure if that's just how they are. Only makes the noise when I let the clutch out, but I don't have problems with it mechanically. I'm going to get my mad scientist on tomorrow hopefully and chop my fenders for clearance.

Take a look at that input bearing, common problem with those transmissions.
A real man builds it... Then his wife points out all that he did wrong.

Ill take a look at the bearing then. I was reading up on it last night and someone else said that the input bearings have problems. I just got my new headlight bevels in too so I can go to the old school round headlight now

So I'm not too sure on the height I need to sit at in order to use 37's with proper clearance if anyone has any ideas I'm open to all advice . I havent been able to check any other builds yet either...I'm sitting at about 3.5"-4" right now if that helps anyone
