What color should i rattle can it?
« on: Mar 05, 2005, 12:20:11 AM »
Here is an old pic but the paint is 16 years old and im going to paint it but i cant make my mind up on what color. Iv been thinking The Black Rustolem Hammered that has a tough texture but what do you guys think? Some how the piant looks nice in these pictures but its not... I like white but it gets dirty too easy so im thinking a darker color... If you have any paint that you would recommend then let me know.
I plan on sanding it with 40grit and primer it then paint it. Post pictures of your self done paint jobs.

My front bumper in this pic was done with the Rustoleum Hammered black (but looks metallic grey)

Wot he said. Unless you are looking to show it who cares, it's a truck. The original paint will hold up better than a spray bomb.

I'd keep it white so the door jams/under hood matches. Also when you dent it and the paint cracks off, the same color comes out. And to top it off, white stays cleanest the longest on a truck. Black will show every scratch.

I agree that military Olive Drab would look great on your truck, especially with the black wheels.  I wonder if you can buy the actual paint the military uses, I bet that stuff is tuff.

You could always go Hammered white. BTW, if you do repaint, use at least 180 grit if not 220 for what you're going to do. 40 grit would leave some vicious gouges.

The military stuff is available but it is costly...I was told 250.00 to 350.00 a gallon for the real stuff :ack:

 Keep the top 3/4 white. The bottom 1/4 paint hammered black like your bumper.

Wow, that's pretty steep.  Where do you get it from?  Governemnt?
Anybody hear of that paint called Chassis Saver?  It's kinda like POR15.  its like $50 a gallon I think, can be thinned and sprayed or brushed, resistant to chips, scratches, just about any chemical, and it's flexible, so it wont crack when you get dents.  I think the Chassis Saver only comes in black or silver, but htey offer other paints in a full range of colors.

Check out www.MagnetPaints.com
It's getting a little more involved than spray cans, but it could be worth it!

DO NOT USE 40 GRIT!!!!!  YOU WILL DESTROY THE TRUCK!!!!  If anything, you want to scuff it with 320 or 400 before you spray.  But like everyone else says, IT LOOKS REALLY NICE right now!

Woops i didnt meant 40 i meant something more like 80 or higher, but the idea of the grey or black on the bottom 1/4 would look so sweet... What is the deal with that military paint, 300$ for a gallon, its not part GOLD is it? :screwy:

I got creative after I flat blacked mine and it was too much "nothing" I did the hood red and since that was the only red thing I color matched the driver side dash and speaker grills. anything you do, sometimes one color can be too much "blah." at least I got bored. mix it up and do one thing, then add to it, then something else. the best part about painting it is that who cares what it looks like you can do something COMPLETELY different for like $9 haha if you hate it, just dig in the couch for change.

May Bobby Long be forever immortalized in his work and deeds to the Toyota 4x4 community. Because of a select few including this wonderful man, none of us have to drive Jeeps. He will be missed.
