Aussie locker or spool in front axle
« on: Nov 19, 2012, 02:21:43 PM »
I'm trying to decide which to put in the front axle, an Aussie or a spool.  I have the Aisin locking hubs so I am wondering if there will be a difference between the two. I know the Aussie will unlock when I'm turning a corner, but I don't plan on turning a corner on road in 4wd at a high rate of speed.  I know the spool is cheaper also.  Thoughts and opinions are appreciated. Truck is street legal and will be driven on the road at times. Thanks.

If you plan on ever driving the truck in 4wd on the road regardless of speed, do not put a spool in the front.

I'd personally go Aussie or look for a used grizzly/Detroit on the classifieds here or on pirate. Spools are hard on everything especially your arms.

Aussies are BOMB. Best locker for the price hands down. If you're really considering a spool, you might as well just weld it and save the money :P

yukon 4.88's and an aussie in a 4 cyl. member out back and I am happy happy! An e-locker would be sweet, but the aussie has been good to me.

.go with the aussie.

If you lived close to me id show you how much a pain in the ass spools are.  With that alone i usually keep my front arb unlocked unless i need it for an obstacle

I'm running a spool in the front and it sucks, get a locker it's worth it.
