Water Pump Help!!
« on: Nov 12, 2012, 05:37:48 PM »
I spent hours looked at online youtube, forums and factor service manual for a what holds the water pump onto the timing belt cover on a 2.4 engine. :hammerhead:

My son's truck had a cooling leak from the pump. When I pulled the pump there were 3 bolts that were not stock. They were rusted. I called the Toyota dealer and they were telling me there are 6 bolts and 3 studs.

Does anyone you know what bolts go where?

I think this is why it was leaking, the threads were a bit buggered up too.

Thanks for any info you have!!

2 studs the rest are just 10mm bolts all same size,  if your cover is screwed up you can replace it, but make sure all the holes are clean of broken off studs

Sounds like the cover bolt holes got messed up when someone replaced the pump at some point, pretty common with someone replacing the pump to cross thread them or pull the threads out if they are not careful. You may have to replace the cover since once messed up there is no real fix.

Thank you for the help!!

I went ahead and ordered the correct bolts from Toyota, I do not want rusted bolts.

I did run the tap through all of the threads. All seem good to go!
