Glad I kept my 4-runner!!!
« on: Oct 02, 2012, 05:42:38 PM »
So I have tore my 4runner apart, and I do not have a blown head gasket!!  :clap2: I do have a broken rod. BUT I have decided that I am going to redo this thing. I want to replace the engine with a 3.4 since the gear ratio is the same as the 3.0 anyways. (I think?)  :dunno: Then I am going to remove the paint and spray paint it OD green. then i am getting the tube bumpers in the front and rear. I am not sure which ones to get though. But if I don't OD it, I think I will get it done by a professional as lime green. If any of you guys have input or ideas on anything else I can do, please let me know. :)  :beerchug:

3.4 is an easy swap if you had a 3.0 because it bolts up to the tranny you already have.

I have been told it bolts up to the same motor mounts also, the 3.4 is the same block as the 3.0 with many improvements!!!

Yep! And I don't want to deal with head gasket issues for the life of the runner. I want to actually have fun in it. :)

i was thinkin the same thing as you but my runner is an 88 auto 3.0

i didnt know or hear of the 3.4 bolting up to my 88 auto trans i understand that they are pretty much the same design but with upgrades internally
if this is true then all i would need is the ecu, harness, and motor then?

i will be watching your build  and taking notes

3.4 has different upgraded heads and a couple mods to block . it will bolt and fit in place of a 3.0. all you needa do is wiring and computer. and exhaust

The engine swap is a "bolt in" then all you have to deal with is the wiring and exhaust, it is a swap that is well worth it just for the MPG and power gains.

My 3.0 just keeps plugging along and have had no HG problems since it was done in 98. But my truck may get a thousand miles put on it in a year, if that much. My truck is a 90 and has 128000 on it, it is just barely broken in!!!!
