project beast wars returns!
« on: Jun 11, 2012, 09:45:13 AM »
Last summer My daily driver blew a head gasket and wiped out the back two cylinders so I decided to get a different rig with being able to go to work in mind and a little 4x4ing in the weekends.  What I ended up with was a Toyota crawler that needed everything replaced haha, although it came with a good set of toyos and some cool bucket seats and a mag light.
My Plan is building a crawler that is a little different from the others but come to find out they always end up similar oh well.

Copy and paste the  [img] code that is the 4th option down as you scroll over the thumbnail in your photobucket album...

are you doing a snorkel on this thing?

if you like mud you are gonna hate the Toyo's...I have them, they don't clean out well...

ok so here it gose it is gona be alot...
so i boght a set of axles out of an 84 with 571s for 500 at the time i didnt know how to count gears so i was under the impresion that they were 529s the rear axle was spooled and the front had a lockright anyway all im gona say is i didnt know enough to inspect them but that is how it is when you start.  so here is the front axle i welded on some marlin diff armor (nice stuff) that my broth got me for xmas. http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o532/dillonmills/051.jpg
i biult a power steering box mount and mounted a ifs power steering box, installed a high steer kit, man those look so clean.
then i put new motermounts, pan gasket, fly wheel, and a marlin 1200 pound heavy duty preshure plate.on my new motor with the help of my brother and dad we were able to stab the moter and bolted up the bell housin and moter mounts in an hour.
the next day i hooked up the motor, and after an epic battle with the stupid smog hose i was able to fire her up.

and here are some pics of the high steer.http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o532/dillonmills/058.jpg

so i went and did some 4 wheeling and found out that my front diff was no good, both my hubs were broke, teraflex shakles suck, stock springs bend reely esay, and that 571 gears are to slow. so time for another compleet rebiuld of the axles. round two... this time i want stronger lockers and housings  front and rear better springs and shackles.

so i got a detroit equiped third with 529s, axle rebiuld kit, axle gusset, u bolt flip, and  hydro assist  for my front axle.
i bead blasted the highsteer billets, knuckles, ubolt flip plates, cleaned up the housing, welded on the bracket for the hydro assist along with the gusset.
Then I painted the knuckles, high steer, hydro assist, ubolt flip plates, 3rd member, and axle.
