For those looking into the OM617 Mercedes-Benz Turbo Diesel 5cyl Swap.

I contacted 4x4labs about there engine to toyota W56 swap kit.
This is the response I received.

Toyota kits are $625 +$100 flywheel core charge.

Everything from the block back is factory Toyota- clutch, flywheel,
throw out, pilot, starter.

I have motor mount plates that match the flanges on the engine block. I
usually leave the frame side engine mounts and build a custom mount from
the block to meet the existing mounts on the frame.

Fuel delivery- there was never a lift pump on the benz cars but I
recommend using a small lift pump at the tank to get fuel to the first
fuel pump on the engine. Not necessary but it helps the mercedes pump
live longer.

Fuel tank- drain the gas out and put diesel in.

Radiator- anything will work. These engines don't run hot. Even the mini
truck radiators are enough to cool the 5 cyl.

Hoses- Most of the hoses go away, at least the vacuum stuff. Heater
hoses you'll need to match at the parts store and find what works. We
don't really install these in peoples cars often so I don't have a list
of parts to use.

Electrical- The engine has very little electrical attached to it other
than the alternator and glow plug timer. The glow plug timer is a box
that you'll need on the driver fender well of the donor car. Theres 4
critical wires. Easy to hook up.

Some progress. so i have 98% of the stuff make this 83 engine EFI. so to make it simple, I am going to pick up a lower intake with the fuel rail and injecters, besides that I have everything else.

I picked up a windshield, G52 w/ tcase, starter, coil w/ ignitor, clutch, and few mics parts.
Tomorrow should have my shackle mounts welded up. im weeks away from getting this thing running. after that, its high steer, shocks and hoops.

My buddy Logan came over and helped me install the trans/tcase, crossmember, shifters, and get the drivers door fixed with bolts and nylocks.







Now I just need a complete lower intake for an EFI and ill be ready to fire this pregnant dog up.

Alright so as I have stated I believe. My radiator core support is messed up and i cant get the headlight buckets to fit correctly, i have no tension springs, clips, adjuster screws, the body mounts are ripped and twisted and needs to be replaced. my hood is also bent, twisted and and needs replacing as well.

So Ive always wanted to convert the front of an 84-88 truck to a tacoma front clip. SO.... what I was thinking I would do was replaced the core support with one from a 97-00 Tacoma, narrow it down if need be so it bolts to the frame in the factory places. And then get the clips, adjusters, headlamps, center grille and hood and get those fitted and massaged to work with the rest of the body, meaning narrowing the center grille and hood. I may even go as far as getting tacoma fenders and modifying those to look factory as well. i will use the 86's fenders if need be to cut up and blend into the tacoma fenders. I think the outcome will be all be worth it. Im just not satisfied with the stock clip.

Do it that would look good just like the one truck peps showed with the same style i think you should try the fenders from the taco as well though!

Alright so I have a little update.
Went to Pull and Save yesterday with Cody (Mudfanatic2) and we scored on an 87 black 4runner SR5 fully loaded. it had everything we needed. I am regretting not spending more time and gutting it. but i got the turn signals with wiring pigtails to replace my cut up ones. I got a new washer fluid pump, mech fuel pump block off plate, grey center console, 87 instrument cluster surround better styling then the 84-86 models, fuel door and with lock (no key though, need to find a lockout with a key), and last but not least.... A DRIVER DOOR WINDOW!!!!

So today I picking $100 in for my engine. I am hoping in the next week to fire this ol girl up. I am getting very close to getting her done.

Being as I am waiting on some needed hardware I decided to get some other little stuff replaced and put back on.

did the new water pump (yes new, not reman), new NGK V-Power Plugs (at .034" Gap), clutch fan, PS pump, PS Lines, Plug wires.








Then today I went to my buddys and we made and welded some mounts for the rear seats. and I grabbed his set of 35x12.5R15 Radial TXRs on 15x8s for mockup and possible street pounders til i get what I want.









Now its figuring out how to mount these 90-95 4runner rear seat bottoms to the 86 body. got the backs figured out. lol
almost there.

Thanks man!! haha yes, Ive needed a vise and that bumper is a convenient location and its solid.


Also, Got the rear seats figured out and almost mounted. have to re-upholster the driver-side bottom half and the rear seat is done. Then its off to finding a set of decent front buckets, fix the wiring connections, install a system and then put the interior in and the interior is done. I have about 1k left in parts to do and ill be on the road. My winter deadline is possible.
