Long leaf conversion Q's???
« on: Jul 13, 2002, 08:25:23 AM »
I want to swap in longer leaves for that sick travel we all desire! There seems to be so many ways to go. A few of my buddies have gone with Toy rears up front and S-10 rears out back. One guy I know has S-10's in the front and f-150 rears! Another has Suburban springs in the back. Currently, I'm running 3" Downey's in the front and 2" Ranchos in the back, both with 3" longer shackles. From what I understand, if I use the rears up front, I'll have to weld new fixed mount about 2" farther up front to make up for added length. This is where I get concerned. What are the suspension height changes? Will the 2" Ranchos lift the same as the 3" Downey's in this configuration? Do you remove any leaves (loads not the same)? If the S-10 springs are 7 or 8 inches longer do I just weld the new mounts 7" up or what? Do i just locate the axle where I want and re-do both ends? What about shackle angle? Do I make super long shackles? If I compress the spring to full flat length, how should the shackle be sitting (flat against the frame or at what angle)?
What have you guys done out there? Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. What suspension layout is in that Orange Toy climbing that white jeep in the random photos on the Home page??!!!
Thanks
Spanky

Hey Spankey 8) one way you can go is to use allpro rear springs the 56" and use factory toyata front spring mounts r/s 48414-35120 and L/S 48415-35050.these mounts are from the 89-95 trucks. these would move 6" forward from the stock location then move your rear shackle hanger back 3".this is the way i'am doing my rear setup. hope this helps you out some 8).

ford f150 springs are the ticket now, with the offset the departure and approach angles are good and they are long and soft..

Of course new mounts are needed..

btw - yj's and my angle..

some people run em front n rear. I run 44044's up front, mazda hybrid pack in the rear.

with the mazda you just have a mount welded right in front of the stock one and bolt em on.

In my jeep with yota axles I run YJ springs front and rear
