will my 4 speed shifter work on my new 5 speed?
« on: Jul 26, 2002, 10:04:48 AM »
okay no i havn't taken the 4 speed out yet.  my wife won't let me work on the truck cause i have a hernia. :ugh:
so i figured that while i'm layed up from surgery that i could locate a shifter if i need one.

the trans in the truck, (that i have a shifter for) is an 82 four speed.
and the 5 speed is out of an 82,(so the guy i bought it from said)  it is cast iron and the bell housing does not come off of the main part of the trans.  the rear section where the shifter bolts is aluminum and can be removed from the main part of the trans.

i would take the shifter off the 4spd and see if it will even bolt to the 5spd if it does try to shift through the gerars and if if every thing feels right then use it :.order:

thanks i was planing on doing that very thing.

but like i said my wife won't let me go near my truck. ::)

i'm going to surgey tomorrow for a hernia, but i figured if someone knew that the shifter wouldn't work i'd get on the phone and search for one while i'm sitting in my living room all week with an ice pack in my lap. :nerv:

that way i'll have everything when i'm healed up, and i can wail on that truck and get it back on the trail.
