Knock Sensor Swap?
« on: Mar 26, 2012, 05:38:49 PM »
So the connector for my knock sensor has yielded to 25+ years of engine temps and vibrations.  I went to the toyota dealer and they aren't sure if they stock a replacement connector.  I'm going to find out when they get the part and compare it to mine.  However thats only half the problem.  The metal piece that is crimped to the wire which snaps into the connector is also broken so I'm going to need one of those as well.

So with all that said, assuming that I can't get this squared away for whatever reason, toyota does stock the wire and connector for later model 22re engines (early 90s era).  Would it be possible to use this sensor in my truck (85) or will that not work.

Can you clarify?  If you're suggesting what I think you are suggesting, I'm not sure that toyota sells the sensor side connection apart from the sensor itself.

I dont understand how you would change both ends without changing the sensor itself.

I had the knock sensor code on my 92 yota and tried using an older pigtail and sensor (two) which did not work.  I ordered a new pig tail and ran a new wire which also I'd not work. I ultimately ordered a new sensor and it was fixed.

For reference my new wire is not shielded and I also moved the sensor to the engine hook. Works mint. Just in case you decide I run a new wire.
