20r problems
« on: Feb 12, 2012, 04:00:54 PM »
o so i have this 80 or 81 (everything says its a 81) ( everyone tells me its a 80)  its got a 20r and side shift 4 speed.  im having major carb problems.  like the float is sticking and just flodding its self. sometimes it wont start but once its warm will run fine. others it starts and runs great till its warm then just loads up and wont clean out.

Ive rebult the carb once and put another on it another time. still same problem.  what do i need to do to adapt a 22r carb or webber????

Really want it to just run so i can hit some trails this spring and summer till  my ex cab is done.

(looking for glens imput alot)

or how to fix my stock carb and go with it.

i have never been much of a fan of the 20r carb... but i would say grab a used weber off CL and buy an adapter

...is it electric fuel pump or mechanical? if its electric could be a fuel pressure thing :dunno:

mechanical everything on motor is stock  has a keg for the gas tank P.O. plugged return line so i brazed a fitting into tank and ran it back like it should be thought mabyle thats y it was so rich/ getting too much fuel.

when i switched to a spare carb it ran great for a cupple rides but now its back to acting up again i couldnt take it today it was so bad sounds like it has a cam and a huge one at that

My weber makes it sound like that too.  Never know if it'll idle smooth or rough till I come to a stop.  It's about $35 for the lce 22r adapter, I got a 22r carb for $40.

20r carb has a round throat, 22r carb has an odd shaped rectangle throat.

Why are you looking at the base to figure out if it's a 22 or 20r  :headscratch:  Just look at the top of the carb.  Round is 20r.
