change 22r t0 22re
« on: Jan 30, 2012, 10:55:35 PM »
I have an '85 5 speed w/22r motor 4x4 crawler. I want to change to 22re. I have lots of questions. 1. what is the newest year motor I can use without problems? Can I buy a 22re motor without a cpu and purchase toyota cpu from a different truck and get it to work? Do I need a different fuel tank than the stock tank on my 22r truck? Can I find a wiring harness and make it work? Anyone that has done this before please let me know the pitfalls. I would appreciate any help. thanks

Prob be easier to get a efi truck and swap your drivetrain into it.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

Lots of great info here

Here is how I did it

1. what is the newest year motor I can use without problems? Not positive on this one

Can I buy a 22re motor without a cpu and purchase toyota cpu from a different truck and get it to work? Keep your motor if it runs fine and just swap out the Fuel injection, ECU will need to match wiring

Do I need a different fuel tank than the stock tank on my 22r truck?  Stock tank works fine, just need an external fuel pump

Can I find a wiring harness and make it work?  This is what I did

If i ever do that swap again im gonna get a RUNNING donor truck. I bought a " complete" set uo from some one and almost got nickle and dimed to death on the swap. Just a suggestion.
83 shorbed pickup. 22 re swap. Dual ultimates, l52hd tranny, 5 " marlin trailflex lift. Yukon 529. Grizzly in rear zip locker front. And a bunch of other stuff....
