Strong crank, no start....
« on: Nov 21, 2011, 09:55:54 AM »
87 4-runner (22RE) was running fine Friday.  Went out this morning to start it, and it cranks great (held for 10 seconds a few times), but doesn't start.  I have read like 5 other posts on this site about similar stuff, but I need a starting point.  What should I check first?  Thanks in advance.

Use a jumper wire, and make it turn on, or spray something flammable in the intake, while someone tries to start it.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

Could be one of the grounds too.  Don't forget the one on the back of the head to the firewall.  I've see that one cause a non-start issue before.

Thanks to all who responded.  I am now a little more confused b/c I went home, and it started first try, like nothing.  Let it run a minute, and everything was fine.  I went out again this morning before work, and same thing....no start!  The only thing I can think of is that there is a problem with the cold???  It is like 43 here this morning (pretty chilly for San Diego), and it was like 65-70 yesterday when I got home.  If the temperature was he issue, would that change anything?  Thanks again in advance.

Temp can, but 43 degrees isnt really cold
When it happens, do you step on the gas all the way?

you can have someone turn the ignition on while you stand near the gas tank and listen for the fuel pump to pressurize. if it comes on, check for spark.

Buddy is having the same problem.  Strong crank but wont start in the morning but when the temp changes it starts like a champ.  Only thing I can relate to this is the inigation control module located next to the coil.  Best to try one off someone truck first cause that cost an arm and a leg.
