electrical ghost
« on: Nov 19, 2011, 08:38:35 PM »
1989 pickup. The radio wires are hanging from under the dash, i dont know if that would cause my problem. When I push the brake pedal, both front turning signals light up and the backlight for the heater control lights up. Also the cluster backlights do not work.

Any Ideas??

Sounds to me that you have a ground problem some where. I did run into a similar problem and it turned out to be a light bulb in the taillight, one of the filmants in the bulb had broken and was shorting to the other filmant in the bulb, and when you pushed on the brake pedal the running lights would come on.

I straightened out the radio wires. Fixed a couple ground cables. That fixed the signal lights coming on when I press the brakes. But I still don't have lights to the dash. The dimmer switch dims the heater light but I don't have any power to the cluster

Sounds like you bought your truck from a crank-fiend?
