85 Toyota lift?
« on: Nov 08, 2011, 04:04:32 PM »
Hey everyone, I have a 85 Toyota pick up 4x4. I'm looking to lift and was thinking of putting the 4runner rear leaf springs in the front. Does it matter what year they come off of? Also looking to just install add a leaf in the rear. I know a lot of you put the Chevy rears but I just do not have the skills to weld them on. Any suggestions or info would be appreciated.. Thanks in advance.

How much lift are you looking for? I haven't seen anyone put 4Runner springs up front, I think they they use PU springs from the early 90's.

Hopefully 4 inches.. If it is less than I was just going to throw a shackle lift with it. I guess im trying to find the cheapest way without any welding.

If you are going to put longer springs up front there is welding involved. Beware of shackle lifts, they will change the angle of the pinion angle in the front and rear. Also in the front it will change the caster angle in the steering, which can cause all kinds of problems. If you are building a mall crawler you may be fine, suspension is a science and cheap lifts can suck. Do it right or do not do it at all.

An add a leaf won't gain much more than 1" and a 3" longer shackle only gains you about 1 1/2" of lift.
You can get front springs that will bolt up and a rear lift block pretty cheap.
Keep it on the lower side while you have push pull steering.
