Does anyone make a 1st gen pickup winch plate?
« on: Oct 02, 2011, 07:08:02 PM »
I'm planning to build a tube bar soon, just wondering if there is an off the shelf winch plate out there for 1st gen trucks?  Similar sort of thing to this one trailgear do for 2nd gen

Or...will the 2nd gen one fit first gen? Ideally I want a bolt on bolt off solution (or something which doesn't requiring so much modding it can't be easily removed to put front bodywork back to standard).

1st and 2nd gen runner maybe, but I can only see two possible holes on my '81 pickup which look like they'll be close (the ones in the end of the rails), AFAIK my factory bumper mounts along the rails not vertically off the crossmember?

That or I'm going blind

Anyone able to get a measurement across the centres for the two outermost holes on a 2nd gen pickup/1st gen runner so I can compare?

If the spacing is the same I reckon I could build some plate brackets to run back to the factory bumper mounts.

the mounting holes for that winch plate compared to the 1st gen pick up are off but about 10mm +/- but can be redriolled in the plate to work and then just weld some tabs to the truck frame to make some of the others work as well

Hmm. Well I'm thinking more and more my best shot will be to just to plate some reinforcement onto the stock bumper mounts (or replace with plate), bend up a platform for the winch and do the rest in tube.
