For the fuse box I found a hole that lined up. The downside is relocating the hood release. For the computer I used self tapping screws. After it passes the ref I plan to tuck it up a bit higher

I'm currently using the 85 cluster. After the ref I'm putting in an 82 sr5 cluster. Can't wait to have my dash back together and a working tach

If you were to use a stock 83 dash and cluster, is wiring in the computer and fuses a confusing job or is it pretty much straightforward, I like the idea of converting to a 22re.

it shouldnt be too bad but i used all of the 22re harness including the under dash harness and tail light harness so i dont have any splices until i put my stock cluster in. i plan to wire in the stock cluster eventually. im going to try to do it without the fsm or diagrams. im thinking if i remove one wire at a time i should be able to identify the existing wires then trial and error when hooking up the new cluster. should be fun.

from the stories of 22re swaps i have heard, it seems pretty difficult to wire in if you keep a lot of the carb harness, easier to strip the donor truck of everything imo

Thanks for that info. There really isn't that much wiring in an early yota so you are probably right, easier to strip out the old and do a fresh install.
