Amazon Kindle

I'm looking to get the wife one of these type of readers and I know NOTHING about this stuff, the reason I chose this one
1. her friend has one
2. price
3. her friend has one
4. I don't know any different

help oldyeller out and help me decide on what to get..... good ....bad ......other options let me know

Wen't to a customers house yesterday and she loved the thing... apparently it has some type of satellite based wifi service as well so a person can download books on it pretty much anywhere.

if you want 3G it's alot more money so she can download books anywhere...

I'd almost go with an Ipad if you plan on spending $379... you'd get more out of an Ipad that's for sure.

ipad has a lot more features over a Kindle but if all you want is the books then for $140.00 you can't beat it. We got one for my dad when the Kindle first came out and he's completely computer illiterate and loves it. As to needing 3G I wouldn't worry about that just make sure you have Wi-Fi connection and download. So what if it takes a little longer.

Sorry, I don't have any experience with these $I\'m Down$ I've only seen a couple. If she likes to read books, then I'm sure she'll enjoy it.

I guess the only feedback I can offer is that when I got my iPhone, one of the first apps I installed was the King James Bible. I have always wanted to have a small digital Bible so I can quickly search for individual words while in church. I have always been proficient with a Bible, but I've often wanted to know how many times a certain word or phrase is used and I need a computer for this. So I used it one Sabbath at church and I didn't like it because I can't quickly skim read what is going on many verses before and after to gain context/subject, I can't write notes with a pencil, I can't highlight pages, et cetera... It's probably just me because my Bible is FULL of notes from me which helps me study, but I felt that having a digital device crippled my ability to flip through pages, remember the timeline or chronological order of events, maintain my ability to speed read, and to scan pages with my eyes...

Also this just could be because a Bible is a study book and not a leisure read.

But look how many people love devices such as the iPad and the Kindle so obviously they are enjoyable

BigMike - A few weeks ago at church one of your younger generation elders was getting to read scripture and pulled out his phone. I think my wife was the only one to catch that he said he was going to read a text. I was just entertained that he was the first to pull out technology for reading scripture.

kindles are great. my mom has a nook which is more ipad'ish ( color,apps etc) and seems to really like it. but cant go wrong with the original =)
