Finally got my tube order to the house. Glad I chose the drive through option on the third stall. They almost fit

Ill start bending some stuff this weekend.

kdub0013

Made some more progress today. Bent a hoop for the front to tie everything into. I also started the skid for the gas tank as well reinforcement for the recovery point on the rear bumper.

kdub0013

So the wife wanted to go to lowes for a ceiling fan so didn't have a full day. I did get the rear hoop ties into the frame behind the seat area and tacked in. I have a pretty good idea now of how I want to incorporate everything now.

kdub0013

I was BBQn a tritip this evening and while watching the meat I cut my grill up to see if I like it. Not sure yet but as far as headlights go I think the round ones are a better fit in the grill. I will mount the 2 4" bars up above the windshield or something. I have 2 bars and 4 round LEDs to place on the rig.

John Doe

Making good progress. Interesting new grill.

I should have that other 4runner ready for you to cut up this week.

kdub0013

Yeah I hate the grille, frigginxj might have one for me hopefully.

Let me know on the pan, I am about ready for it  :beerchug:

TheChewMaster

The round looks better in your grill setup. A larger rectangular may look better than the one ya got, but since ya got light bars too, stick with the round lights.

kdub0013

Round it is.

Well I removed my dash so I could figure out the best way to tie the cage and the front in together any thoughts? I have a hole saw and I was going to run two bars through the firewall. Anyway there is a bunch of crap in there but do I just redo the a pillars and tie them in and that way they dump into the dash for more leg room and put the dash back in I guess.

tgmaul88

I like how your keeping it 22re

kdub0013

Thanks. Yeah figured the 60 was already geared to 6.17's so the 22re will be fine. I'm not racing it or anything crazy.

John Doe

I say you re do the a-pillars.

kdub0013

Yeah and I should probably redo the A pillar. It sucks I don't want to get carried away with the tube right yet but I need the bars running through the fire wall and out so I can mount all the engine bay goodies  :smack:

kdub0013

Got the stinger on real quick. Used the wrapping paper tube method to get the weird angle at the hanger area, worked good.

kdub0013

My new used blingin chrome Toyota grille from frigginxj, thanks buddy
Looks much better than that abortion I posted up the other day.

TheChewMaster

Ya that grill does look nicer, where your lights going to go now?

Thanks. I guess just below, but I'd like to run 4 above the windshield with a hoop around them like all the fast Koh guys do

Well all that remains is the main hoop, what to do now  got a good idea how I am reworking it. I'm still debating on trying to retain the cab top. Not sure yet. Got a full weekend of work to do between the truck and dis brake brackets.

kdub0013

Well the wife wanted the cab so I changed my mind again and started this, turning out alright so far. My splices are sleeves with 1.5" Dom inside and drilled holes in each side for the extra welds and strength.

I also modified this stock perch I got from 1tontractor over on section8krawlers so I solved my height issue on the passenger side. Not the best thing I've ever fabbed up but it works.

kdub0013

More cage progress with rigid mounted tube doors.

kdub0013

So the more I think about it now that my dash is apart and I am building a custom dash I mite as well strip the factory wiring harness of any unnecessary wire. Time to do some research I guess. I can wire up simple stuff like lights, stereo etc. I don't need turn signals now, reverse light never worked and I wont need parking or marker lights.  Is it worth the headache?

kdub0013

Started the fender bar which won't be seen but I hate it. I did the bend to much and the angle is off a tad. I may try and cut it and splice back together since I will have a bar over the engine and tied into the hoops to help brace it all. Maybe I can do a bend on the longer portion to bring it back out a tad? I might try that first.

Also threw the steering cooler on nothing crazy.

More progress. Need to figure out what to do for the rear cage.

Ziptied the grille on for the hell of it.

Back of the cage maybe you guys can throw and idea or two at it. I do have that rear hoop still that was part of the extended cab portion I can narrow and use also. Driver side of windshield still needs to be welded back on.

Also I am running a cone filter, where does this smaller tube go to if the stock air box is gone? I am ordering a 135 degree silicone hose and the maf will sit about like so, the box of rubber gloves represents the cone filter.

kdub0013

Oh and nothing crazy but I did lengthen all my afm wires to relocate it to the other side. I actually used solder and did it right. Never crimping connections ever again :shaking:

Oh and ordered this 135 degree bent silicone intake hose to turn the maf back along the motor.

kdub0013

So I'm also looking at removing the smog crap, egr, cat, o2 sensor etc since this is a green sticker rig. Do I need all that stuff or should I ditch it?

kdub0013

Well did a partial trade for these with my front driveline from my buddy Shayne. I needed harnesses anyway so here they are. Now I need seats to match :smokin:

kdub0013

Crappy update since I've had zero shop time while the wife recovers from surgery. I'm hoping to get the back section of cage done this weekend now that I have an idea of what I want. Anyway got some goodies. Beefy rear driveline tube, intake tube, and some home brew speaker cans :smokin:

tubework is looking pretty good man, i like it

kdub0013

Thanks. I kind of did a in cab ultra 4 looking rig even though I'm a long ways from going fast

kdub0013

Shitty update but here it is.Meandered around the garage after work waiting for FedEx. I cleaned up :pokinit: that was everywhere, put my speaker cans together, got my goodies for moving my frame tube forward some more and got my front brake stuff from summit. I placed an order last night at 830 and had the package by 630 this evening  I also got all my hydro lines and stuff enroute so hopefully getting the steering together this weekend.

Anyway the cage work is on hold because I would rather get this thing rolling again so I will be working on that.

kdub0013

I need a seat recommendation. I am looking at Corbeau baja ultra or baja xp. Thoughts? Mind you this is just a trail truck.
