Well I figured how how I want the cage to be after stumbling on this thread by bent fabrications http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/general-4x4-discussion/1113060-i-bought-evo2-bent-fabrications-now-what.html

I like the idea and look. This will give me a good platform to start with as well as make it easier when I do links and coil overs. Watch out for my mad paint skills.

kdub0013

Gonna work on moving my frame tubes forward today and shorten and retune the rear driveline. Yesterday I got my anchors for my harnesses front summit as well as all my hydro lines minus a fitting or two I will need.

kdub0013

Well made a little progress today. First I did a much needed clean up of my small floor space. I started prepping the frame and doing a little grinding for the holes. I tell ya cutting metal with the plasma was so much nicer. Got rolling and OOPS stopped by to check out the rig. Bs'd for a while and then I got back to the frame tubes and fixed my shackle angle. The tubes are now 2" x .25 wall Dom and now I can use the same red pro comp bushing for everything. Tomorrow I will fix my tie rod and set the alignment as well as get the perch welded on the driver side of the axle. I need to get this thing rolling again and I'm damn close.

kdub0013

Did a bunch today most didn't warrant pictures. Pulled the calipers off the front and cleaned everything up. Used the plasma cutter and finished cutting all the extra garbage off the frame rails and bed. Started the rear of the cage modeled after the bent fab chassis. Would have made it further but the wife needed me so duty called.

Three some tape on to simulate where I want the bars to go as well as the 4runner seat which I did not think it would fit but works perfect.

Lets go wheeling dad!

TheChewMaster

Those front spring look much better than earlier.....glad to see the rear seat is going to work well, something I've always admired. You are darn close, just replace that tape and finish the front axle and are you rolling again? Hope everything stays n track

Thanks. Yeah my frame tubes were goofy from the first time they got burned in. My buddy was drunk I think and I was working on assembling the axle so he did the holes nd welding, no wonder I was going through bushings so fast.

Yeah mawnov gave me that rear bench out of his 85 runner and it fits perfectly. Should be good for strapping car seats too for a few years. When the kid is bigger and hopefully number two will be here eventually then I will get an aftermarket bench.

I have all the plumbing and pieces for the steering and brakes. I need to shorten the tie rod, put a heim on the shaft end of the ram, shorten the rear driveline and finish the cage. Of course I have to wire up the stereo and lights too but that's last. Oh floor pan and blah blah blah. I did get the 60 back under and all bolted up first thing this morning.

kdub0013

I was playing around with paint again (cheaper than wasting duct tape) anyway here is kind of what I am going for. I didn't show gusseting and all the random odd and ends pieces.

looks like that should work just fine and be plenty strong.  you've got alot of tubes to put in!

I know need to spend a little more time notching correctly.

Cut the old tie rod down an 1" and set my toe in. Outer edge of disc to disc is 64 1/8" in the front and 64 back edge. It will be somewhere between that and a quarter.

Also started cutting the old rear driveline apart to retube it with the thicker wall stuff. Don't care about balance that much as it will primarily be crawling, none of that "go fast" :pokinit: :flipoff2: or street driving.

Here is a couple more with the tie rod set and axle bolted in. Need to drill the third stud still but I think I can get it without taking back out.

You did an alignment off the brake rotors? If so that 1/8"-1/4" is going to grow with the tires on. Truck is looking really good. Keep at it, your almost there!

Thanks!I see what you are saying. 1/8" at the rotor will be more like 3/4" at the tire? Yeah I will double check it with the tires on. It's barely at an 1/8" I will have to get another set of eyes and hands to help me with that.

kdub0013

After a good conversation with Jeff (nascar chassis builder by trade) and Steve today at Goldenstatemotorsports I agreed that more triangulation is needed. I think I will add the 2 roof bars over the front and move the back X towards the rear. The white lines were just to show how it will tie in on the bed sides. Thoughts? Doesn't look too much like a jungle gym. Is it worth it to try and keep the cab top, or just skin it?

I think something like this will not only look decent but more importantly it will be safe!

kdub0013

I was never moving the b pillar x, but the x in the rear behind the rear seat. I added the white lines at the b pillar.

Gotta love some quality suspension seats

kdub0013

I know I've never wheeled in anything so comfy.

kdub0013

Got off a little early today and got a couple hours in. Went ahead and setup all my hydro lines and routed everything. Made a small frame out of 1x for the steering cooler and welded some trick tabs on to mount the radiator. Got my fluid resi up nice and hi as well. Just need to get my tabs cut for the ram mounts and I will be rolling again.

kdub0013

And lastly here's what 70 dollars in lug nuts looks like :shaking:

kdub0013

Got the radiator in 100%. Need to fab up a mount for the orbital. Stuck the stock overflow resi to see if that will fit. Also need to make a bracket for the on board shower heat exchanger that's dangling there. Gonna be a tight fit but it will work.

Looks good! Can't wait to see it in person.
