Getting hub studs out of inner hub
« on: Apr 22, 2011, 09:58:15 PM »
How would I go about getting the 2 studs out of the inner hub.  I got the 6 threaded bolts out but I cant get the 2 studs out that hold the locking hub in place.  Any suggestions would be great.

Can you pound them out from the back? If not drill them out.

You can drill them out, thats how you mod your hubs to do bobby longs dowel mod

Also, usually the reason the hub studs break, is because they were loose. I check mine all the time now, becasue they do wear loose over time.

I did the same thing, I sheared off the hub studs and one of the dowel pins ended up stuck in the locking hub. The pins are hardened, I wasted a bunch of money on screw extractors then finally just replaced both.

I'm just gonna buy 2 new hubs. WFO said its impossible to get those out.  I killed 5 drill bits trying to drill it out and they were specifically for hardened steel.

bobbys kit adds 4 more 5/16 dowles to the exsiting 2 and still uses the stock aliment dowls makeing it a 6 dowl pin hub. its the :pokinit: ive never had any problems since the added dowls. you should have the shop put those dowls back in for you and then call bobby for the new dowls get them in and thank your self for doing it. very straight forward install and works awsome. just my .02
You can drill them out, thats how you mod your hubs to do bobby longs dowel mod

Also, usually the reason the hub studs break, is because they were loose. I check mine all the time now, becasue they do wear loose over time.

Did you try an EDM?  That will get them out.  Machine shop in your area should have one.
