first time rebuilding front axles. need advice
« on: Apr 19, 2011, 09:30:39 PM »
Ok, so I ordered some longs, and decided to tear apart and rebuild my front end for the first time. My question is about the bearings. After I cleaned them up real good, there is no discoloration and they appear to spin really easy. The only thing I notice is a little mark between the rollers. Up towards the upper end of the bearing. Should wait four weeks and get all new ones form Marlin or just replace all the seals, felts, etc.. basically I need to know how to tell if the ones in there are still good.
83 shorbed pickup. 22 re swap. Dual ultimates, l52hd tranny, 5 " marlin trailflex lift. Yukon 529. Grizzly in rear zip locker front. And a bunch of other stuff....

one thing. I did notice some very slight pitting on one of the trunion bearings. Is that something to.worry about?

I would highly recommend upgrading to some HD trunnion bearings, they are stronger and have thicker rollers in them.
