Swing Out tire kits
« on: Apr 14, 2011, 09:03:02 PM »
I've look at a few brands, AtoZfab tire kit looks good and i found some good reviews, but this company came up also. Can't find any reviews on it. Anybody have experience with them?

looks like a lot of others, cant say anything bad about it. Except I wouldn't rely on it only for support. I've seen those smaller ones break.

It doesnt' matter, the majority of the damage and stress comes from driving down the road and the tire and gate start to bounce. Sitting there in the parking lot its fine. but evenually the stress takes its toll. 33" or 37"

Make a latch, that supports the tire, so the hinge doesnt.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

well the kit i finally ended up getting was this one. http://www.emsoffroad.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=78&products_id=180

The guy i ordered it from said that for an extra 25 bucks more it would be a hell of a lot stronger. Plus it comes with a latch.

Dont sweat the hinge so much as the support on the opposite end. Dont let the hindge support the weight of the tire and you'll be OK. you need the latch to support the weight not the pivot point.

The weight of the tire sat on the bearings in the spindle and on the pin holder which completely rested on the bumper itself.

Heres, what I did for a guys jeep...

I could not use a fancy hinge due to time constraints, it just a 1.25  grade eight bolt with 1.75x.250 wall dom but it has worked really well, the other side is supported with a set of tabs with a drop pin.  hope it helps some.

The one I built no there isn't.  The pin end of the carrier actually has a piece of 1/4" UHMA screwed to the bottom of the support that sits on the bumper.  So no metal to metal contact what so ever.  Pin hole is only 1/64" bigger than the 7/8" pin that I used so no slop.
