It's all good lol. Couldn't have gone anyway, had to work all day friday and I need to modify my winch plate. Holes are in the wrong place for the winch that I am using.

So I blew some rings out in, I think, cyl 4 on the 4th. So my turbo engine is becoming a reality sooner than I'd thought. Bought a RTE long block from Brian at FROR today for $150. Which makes oiling the turbo easier. Instead of having to drill and tap the bosses on my block. I am going to try to have the block bored .030 over. Hopefully drop it off early next week so that I can have everything put back together and broke in before Jambo next month. Also took one of my spare heads to a head shop to have a valve job done and ported and polished. So right now my engine spec plans stand at: .030 over RTE block with RE (high compression) internals, p&p head with a 261C cam from engnbldr, an EFI setup from a 93 2wd, and a K04 turbo off of an Audi TT with a custom manifold to match. A friend of my family's is huge in the local rat rod/hot rod scene and is going to build the manifold for me.
I am also thinkin about running a Turbosmart mechanical boost controller so that I don't overboost and grenade the darn thing.

Head is back from the shop all purdy and clean

Port n polish

Dropped the block off this morning at me preferred engine shop in Denver. Going .040 over instead of the aforementioned .030 over. They can't get me the .030 kit anymore. Hoping to have it back within the week.

Got the low end put together on Saturday and I got my old engine tore down yesterday for all of the things that this new engine lacked (oil pickup & pan, timing cover etc). I'll be assembling the rest tonight.

I will try to get some pics. There's a pretty good gouge at TDC and BDC. I think it is saveable if I punch it out to .080 over.

I think it's time to dig this ol thread out of the archives, knock the dust off, and breathe some life back into it.
I never did "finish" that turbo build. I ended up slapping the carb intake and Weber back on it and sent it. It's got probly close to 40k on it now but is sitting on an engine stand and waiting patiently for a different build.
Back in the summer of '18, I picked up a 84 Xtra cab (cab only) and a 80 long bed (cab n frame) for a steal. The ol rte block is gonna go in that long bed eventually. So anyway, that x cab sat in my yard for the rest of the year while I gathered other parts and ideas. In that time, my dad decided to let go of his 302-W-56 adapter and a 5.0l Explorer v8, so I picked that up as well. Then in March of this year I slapped a set of 40s on the truck and stripped it to the frame for a cab swap.

My old front springs, factory 4wd 51"rears, weren't up to the job of supporting the heavier 5.0l. The oil pan sat on the axle truss on flat ground. So I ordered up a set of 2.25" lift OME springs. I figured they'd be perfect to support the added weight of the V8 and the 12k lb winch that's going up front. They sit a touch higher than level. Probly sit about right once I get the winch mounted and get em broke in.

I know, she needs a bath BAD. Greaaaassssyyyy. It's at the top of my list.

Before I put the engine in, I scrapped the factory Explorer intake setup for a factory 2bbl intake and a 2bbl FiTech throttle body for the sake of minimal wiring. I had previously replaced all the factory wiring with my own "stand alone" type system. Ran everything to a blue sea fuse box and Conutra v switches. Of which I'll post some pics for when I can dig em up.
When I pulled the Explorer intake the two front bolts snapped off in the heads l, so I had to drill those out n fix em.

I had planned to run the skip tooth style ingition system for this, I thought it was EDIS 8 but turns out to be only similar to the EDIS setup. So I dropped a Summit HEI dizzy in it and called it a day. For the air cleaner, didn't end up using the one in the pic above, it wouldn't fit with the dizzy. My buddy had a 6.9 IDI air cleaner laying around and we modified that to work. I have a video of it running but am waiting on the upload to show up in my Photobucket.

Finally got the radiator mounted and fully plumbed to the back.  The radiator is a triple pass from summit and the fan is a Flexalite black magic.

You can see the upper rad mounts here. Just bent em up out of some 1.5" flat stock

The beer keg will be my fuel cell and the next project to cross off the list.

Large update since the last post. Got it running and took it for a shakedown
The radiator and fan fully mounted

Batteries, fan controller, and sub amp

New brake setup. T100 Booster, Sky's wildwood adapter, wildwood master and prop. valve, and deleted the rear return.

Tied the keg down with some scrap 520 chain. Welded some of the links for structure

Had to throw some different valve covers on it. The factory Explorer covers didn't have a provision for a PCV. Kept blowing out the cork gaskets at the front and back of the intake. Replaced the cork with Right Stuff as well. No more leaky

The ever unfinished dash

View from the driver's seat

The FiTech read out

Did a trip out to Chinaman for Memorial Day weekend for the shakedown run and couldn't be happier. I feel like its so much more capable now than with the 22r. Theres only a few minor things to fix. The power steering pump needs replaced, need to install the extended brake line for the rear, and theres a gremlin with the driver front brake caliper. It locks up after a while. I'm fairly certain that's its a heat issue. Gonna have to re route that line

Then we took it and my dad's '70 half cab Bronco to 5R Truck Fest at Bandimere Speedway. Both of us took first in class. Pretty rad day
