ARB it is open until you need to use it and then full spool

It will save on tires in the long run

For reliability the Detroit is the way to go.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

It will save on tires in the long run

I really doubt that having an ARB would save enough money in tires to pay for itself for a long time, but you might get a slightly better wear pattern and thus a smoother ride for a little longer.

The ARB would be the best in an ideal world, but a Detroit is much more reliable.  If you drive on the street in snow then you might consider an ARB in the front only to minimize cost.  Street driving on snow with a mechanical locker is an interesting adventure that borders on being unsafe.  There's a fine line between going to fast in 4wd to be safe but not wanting to go for it in 2wd.

The Yukon grizzly locker (similar to the Detroit)  looks pretty trick too.
22RE .30 over, mild cam, K&N, LCE header, 2.25'' pipe, high flow cat, Magnaflow.
 Marlin 1200LB clutch

 no substitute for 4wheel drive.

thanks for that guys.the yukon looks good ae.i agree with the arb being money saving in the long run but its a big price to fork out in the begining, and you do have alot of components to go with it.another 1 i saw on the net used a power operated loking mechanism, when as power is aplied it spreads the locking side gears into each other.not too good when you want to crawl through mud or somthing but need the locked axle.ill look into shiping costs to get a cuple of yukons to new zealand

Fourteem years on the air line to the rear, eleven on the front. No sagging, no leaking. If you route them you will have no problems with them. ARB is the only locker I would own.
