Cracked exhaust manifold
« on: Mar 26, 2011, 10:13:58 PM »

I have a 95 tacoma with a 2.7 in it, this will be the 3rd exhaust manifold that has cracked.

The first time I had a shop install an aftermarket manifold that cracked within 3 months.

I replaced the second with a toyota manifold, it lasted 6 months and its cracked again, any ideas on what is going on?

yeah thay always break, bad design
you can make a brace from the block to the flange,
or go with a header

I just got the painted Pace Setter header. I haven't installed it yet, but I'm hoping it will work well. It was less than $200 from Summit.

after 2001 toyota upgraded to a header for that exact problem with the 3rz's if you go into toyota i think they are like $180- $200 bucks for the 2001 oem exhaust manifold

Get a dealer part from a 01-04 2.7L.  They changed the exhaust manifold design in 01 due to cast iron flaws.  The 01-04 part is a tube steel style.

My header on my 99 3rz taco was cracked completely in half.. i just welded it up with my arc welder.. hasn't cracked yet but i havent put enough miles on it to make it crack again BUT.. I head from a Toyota guru back in my home town that sometimes the 3rz's have a problem with them running lean?  says maybe its running lean which makes the manifold hotter whch makes it easier to crack.. sounds like a legit explanation to me?

Pot metal is not cast iron
Usually its a blend of whatever is left in the "pot" its mostly zinc based.

For the 2.4/2.7, you need a mini header like this...

Would that fit on a 22RE?

Even if the flanges fit, which I highly doubt, 2/3RZ's are passenger side exhaust.
