Trans stuck in 1st
« on: Mar 03, 2011, 06:21:52 PM »
I put a new clutch in my 89 pick-up while I had the trans out I pulled the transfer case off to reseal it and make sure everything looked ok. I also split the trans enough to clean the old rtv off and reseal it. Took nothing off or apart other than resealing. Put it all back in and it is stuck in first and will not go back or forward shifter goes side to side just fine. I pulled the shifters off and unbolted the rod that the gear shifter slips into and cant move it either direction manually. Did I install this rod wrong and it wont move now? I had absolutley no problems shifting before this.

Did you stand the tranny on end? If it stands on in and isn't in a gear, then things can move and tend to get stuck. Never had this happen to me, But My tranny guy told me to never stand a tranny on end unless its in gear. to Prevent such things from happening.
