Which notcher and angle finder?
« on: Mar 02, 2011, 10:01:06 AM »
Im looking to get a new tubing notcher and a good angle finder. As far as notchers, I have been looking at the JD notchmaster https://www.jd2.com/p-63-notchmaster.aspx and the JD tn-100 https://www.jd2.com/p-62-tn-100.aspx

Im not too familiar with whats on the market as far as notchers, im definitely open to suggestions as long as its not a harbor freight piece.

As far as angle finders go, I have no idea whats out there... Im still doin it the old fasioned way

Thanks in advance

With a little practice and about a 36 degree angle set on a chop saw or a bandsaw, you can make perfect notches.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

Ive done it that way before, it gets to be a PITA workin with a long, bent piece of tube though. Im goin to be building an end to end cage for my 63 mercury soon, gonna have some loooong pieces to work, now seems like a better time than any to invest in a notcher.

Both those JD2 notchers are nice.  There are cheaper ones.  I agree on not going the saw route, if your doing alot of tube work, a simple notcher is the way to go.  I use the Iron Worker for production, and the simple 1/2 drive type for anything less.

This is true except its 26 degrees ( for 1.5 inch tube)   but between the two the notchmaster is the way to go. Iv been using it for over a year now and its a solid piece of equipment. If you can spring for the extra coin the baileigh tn-250 is the best hole saw notcher you can buy in my opinion.  All of them will work, just depends on how much you plan to use it.

Good to hear, I orderd it yesturday along with a 1.5 4.5 180 die and bend tech pro  :gap:

I would love to have the baileigh, but Its a little out of my price range seeing as though its $75 more than I paid for the car that im building a cage for... haha.

Thanks for the suggestions guys  :beerchug:
