Removing aluminum stickers from vehicle?!
« on: Feb 10, 2011, 08:49:02 AM »
So the PO put aluminum racing stickers all over the new rig and i'm having a hell of a time getting them off.

I've tried hot water, rubbing alchohol and goof off. Which got most of the stickers off with ease but the aluminum coated sticker's aren't affected..... it's getting to the point where they won't even peel off at all and i've only removed maybe 10% of the sticker...

Anyone have any tips/tricks for getting them off without damaging or removing paint?

i'm affraid to use a razor blade because i'll probably damage something.

I helped my brother take some cheesy ricer stickers off his new to him 240sx. They were all aluminum/chome and a total pain to get off. We finally pulled the car out of the garage and let it bake in the sun for a while. That helped a ton but still the only thing that helped was elbow grease.

Once we got the "Sticker" off we used a 3m wheel from Napa to get all the sticky crap off. I've never spent so much time taking off 3 somewhat small stickers. It took me less time to debadge my cummins hahaha.

Yep, heat gun will soften the glue so the sticker can be pealed then some solvent can be used to remove the glue.

Yup but honestly we couldn't even get them started before we let it bake in the sunlight and warm up.

I've also heard of plastic razor blades to get stickers off. My buddy was just telling me at lunch he used one on his Z71 and all the stickers came off easy. I've never used on though.

we went w/ the 04' with 28K... i'll snap a few pictures in a little while.

yea heat was definently a huge help, it's about 70* out today so it helped heat one of the stickers to the point where I could peel quarter size pieces off. the one on the bumper i used my wifes hair dryer.

i've never heard of plastic razor blades, that would be handy to have.

If you don't have a heat gun a hair blower on high heat works, just get an edge going and apply hot air under the sticker and slowly, very slowly peel the sticker. When I say slowly I mean really slow, could take a long time to get the glue hot enough to melt.
