My Reverse Shackle YJ Suspension,....
« on: Dec 14, 2010, 09:57:42 PM »
Well, I have installed the YJ Springs and Reverse Shackle on Sylvia the Silly Suzuki Samurai(As my Grand daughter calls her)

I bought a kit form Asian Auto Parts of Arizona,...Front & Rear S/R Suspension Kit $474.00 plus shipping.....Yes, I could have manufactured it my self, but for that price, why?

Portabill donated the YJ leafs he took off of his rig,...THANK YOU BILL! :bounce:

My good friend Tommy let me barrow his lift and shop. I found it much easier to lift the whole thing for cutting, grinding and welding.

This is how she sat when I brought her home,.......

This is how she sits now after the YJ RS Suspension......

I had to remove 3 add-a-leafs,....strangely enough, one of the leaf packs was missing an add-a-leaf. I now have a 4 leaf pack front and rear.....

Hear are some more pics of the brackets and the install....

First the Front,.....

I will be adding a 2x4 or 2x6 front bumper to be welded in place and also act as cross member and really strengthen the extensions.

The front shackle hanger was re-used, but it was recommended by AAPA to drill a new hole 1" back and 1" up from the original hole,...after drilling the hole, I found that the stock hole set the shackle at a 45' angle which is better. I might have to adjust the pinion angle of the front and cut the ends to adjust caster too.....That is for another day.... :don'tknow:

As you can see, the brake lines will need some relocation and extended and the extra length of the u-bolts cut down...,.....the brake lines have  already be installed, I will add updated pics after I cut the u-bolts,......soon,...... :zuperdave:

Now for the back,......

Rear View

Leaf hanger bracket uses the hole from the stock rear hanger to align new bracket, then bracket is welded into place.

Prior to adjusting pinion angle, drive line is not lined up correctly,....

Driver side view,......

Stock rear shackle hanger get re-used with new longer shackles that are tapered for the YJ Spring width,......

You can see here the stock hanger is left in place and the YJ leaf hanger is bolted up to align the new location and then it is welded into place.........

Pinion angle after adjusting it with 2' down from output shaft and installing drive line spacer...Grinding the old perches off the axle was a pain,....and I used a 3 hole adjustable rear perch to move the rear axle back an 1".....
