4.10s are the most common, but............

I keep Erik Bibelheimer's site bookmarked for anything I want to know about Toy axles.  He has a link out to ORC's Axle Page with a vin chart for diff/gear id.

from '83-up, base models with a 5 speed generally got 4.10s

before that, '79 and '80 got 4.38s, '81 got 3.90s
in '85 with the introduction of the slushbox, 4.30s were available.

after that, trucks were available with 31" tires from the factory.  these got 4.56 gears with a 5 speed, and 4.88 gears with an auto

Jr9162, sounds like you and I have the same truck, and mine's even from Alaska.  Gotta love non-catylist models,   Nate

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!

Cool Nate,

U get thatn name from road racing motor cycles? How'd u steal a Toyota from Alaska? LOL!

Is it as rusty as this one? I bought it with a cracked frame f(2 places) or $350 and been parting it out. It's a veritable treasure chest!
