Almost scammed today while applying for jobs....
« on: Nov 19, 2010, 04:19:02 PM »
So, like most of this country I am laid off and looking for work.  I applied for a job on Craigslist by sending a short message and my resume to them and this is what I got in as a reply:

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your response to the ad. We've received quite a fewresponses with great resumes, so we've found a system that will helpus verify that you have a good understanding of English and possess basic math and reasoning skills. Please follow the steps below:

1) Click your personal link - this link is associated with yourapplication: http://cllinks.com/?id=JBJx

2) Take the 10 question quiz - don't rush, this quiz is not timed.
3) Important: Enter the cell phone number that we can contact you on toschedule an interview.
4) You will be text-messaged a pin code to validate your score, pleasewait for this pin code and enter it on the site.
5) That's it, you're done.

We will be provided with your score and ifqualified (5/10 correct), we will contact you for a formal interviewthis week.

Thank you,
Stacey Lambert

I clicked on the link, took the test, but read all the fine print before I gave any personal info. They were going to charge me $9.99 per month to send quizzes to my phone if I followed the steps given.  On top of that, there is no company called Assured Employment.

Wow.... no shortage of scammers out there! Good thing you thought to read the fine print; I wonder how many do not?
My goal in life is to be as a good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

I don't know, but I hope people catch these.  I flagged it for removal on craigslist.  I guess scammers are low enough to scam people that have no money....F'n scammers.....

I just wanted to reply here. Apparently, this very unscrupulous "company" or individual has also taken the liberty of forwarding the domain associated with her e-mail (assuredplacement.com) to my company's website (insourced.com). I want to assure everyone who may be reading this that Insourced *IS NOT* associated with this company. If you see this redirect, please be assured that it has not been authorized by my company and we are not associated with this fraudulent activity. What's more, the owner of the domain is hiding behind an anonymous whois service. I've filed complaints with them (whoisguard) and the registrar (GoDaddy).

To reiterate, Insourced (my company) is not associated with this fraudulent activity in any way.

Truly disgusting people out there . My next move may be the FTC.

Regards,
Canton

Some more information for those almost taken in by this scam. Any reporting you do will help this cause (contacting the hosting company, anonymous whois service and domain registrar will help to have their domain revoked or, at a minimum, hosting revoked). Note that the domain is: assuredplacement.com (currently forwards, without my permission, to my website).
