Shoot a spicer u-joint VS a birf, whos gonna win? Definatly the spicer u-joint, but id get dirty 30s or longfields if ur looking for an upgrade, they dont bind like u-joints but toyotas 30* of steering probly couldnt bind a u-joint if its whole reputation was at stake. basically just leave it unless you want longs or i went the TG 30's route. If your gonna spend the money get a used pair of longs for ~350-400 cuz bobby says he'll warranty out a used pair, he doesnt care. wish i knew that before i bought my dirty 30's

Someone upgraded from birfs on that one for sure. Of course my 86 didn't come with birfs so the answer to your question would be yes they did and do make 4x4 Toyota's that don't come with birfs. :gap:

Besides IFS, did toyota actually have u-joints for some 4x4 axle shafts?

They did not have joints on the IFS, they are a CV which is basically a Birfield without as many balls.

It is not the Joint that breaks in the kit, it is the yokes on the D-44 axles. The reason the yokes break is they have to be machined down in order to fit in the axle ball. I ran Spicer 760 X joints and never had a problem. I ran the kit for five years and every time I went out I wondered if today was the day it was going to break. I always carried a Birfield, long and short side axle, and a spindle with me. Even though I now have Longs I still carry a a Birfield, long and short side axle and I have used them.

No no bobby is doing a great job, this is actually in favor of the consumer. If you buy a set of longfields off a friend for say $300, If they ever break bobby will warranty them out for brand new ones, even if they're second hand. Now that's a good company IMO

I thought bobby doesn't warranty them if it is the hub gear that messes up the birf?

It says it on his page...

Sounds to me like his hub didnt break, but the longfield stripped. Therefore bobby should replace it, but whadda ya gonna do  :dunno: get 30's i guess. No questions asked lifetime kicks butt, plus i have had Zero problems with my 30's. I cant say that for much else on the yota

well when you call in a order you cant read his warranty online i didnt have internet access at the time i orderd to read his warranty  so you dont know and when you order they should tell you on the phone if you dont get the hub gears or dont have them and you mess up the hub splines it will not be under warranty i think the longs are great and would buy again if i got some hub gears gave to me for the satisfaction that if i had any more trouble they would be under warranty

Since you're pimping tg's warranty, I'm wondering if you've actually had to have something warranted through them?  I've talked to plenty of people, and read where many others say it's next to impossible to get something they claim is warranted for life replaced, often telling the customer it's their fault.

I have bobby's hub gears already but don't have the birfs.  I'll be covered when I do buy his birfs and don't have to deal with a company I don't trust  :twocents:
