Front Spring Ideas
« on: Oct 17, 2010, 06:52:24 PM »
I'm planning on installing hi-steer this winter on my 80 Pickup. The rear springs are 63" chevies(1/2 ton, 3 leaf). So the rear will have some lift. I need some advice about what springs to run in the front. I've been reading about the RUF option, I'm just thinking it looks like a lot of work to build your own leaf pack. I also want to save money, so buying new springs is a last resort. Any ideas of easy alternatives?(SOmething i might find at a junkyard?)

RUF really aren't that much work. It took me about 20 min to put the pack together. All I did was put the top three leaves from two packs together.

Waggy's are a bolt up spring you can get out of a junkyard. But really taking apart leaf springs is easier than changing oil.

So you used the top three leaves from two stock rear leaf packs? Do you get good flex with this setup?

On my 82, I cut down and mixed in F150 spring that I got from the junkyard for $60. plus running the RUF it move you axle forward about 1.5inch. It is really ease to do, and clamp the springs together before u take them apart. and they flex nice.     here is a pic of them with 33 tires.
