MSD 6A

You also need MSD part number 8910-EIS  (special version of part 8910 for toyota and ford)

Instructions available at MSD or summitracing if you want to see what's involved

If you don't have to worry about a CARB EO for smog, you could use the summit version of multiple spark ignition (looks like a rebadged version of a MSD competitor) .......... (probably needs the MSD 8910-EIS)

Like emsvitil said, MSD 6A and the 8910 EIS Tach Adapter. MSD Blaster coil and Definitely run better wires to handle the juice.

You must use the 8910 EIS if you are running it on a 22RE. I'm running this set up on my 88 PU and my son is running it on his 91 PU, both 22RE's.

Many people say they notice no difference running them but, I notice quicker starting and a way smooth idle. If the MSD ever fails, you can just unplug it and be back to stock.

On my carbed vehicles, I'm running 6AL boxes direct with the stock mag pickup in the distributer with Blaster coils. I got all my stuff used except one which I got on sale at Checker.

Easy to find used for cheap. I have bought 6 used ones and never paid more than $50. MSD's website shows how to test them. You just need a battery. Don't accidently shock yourself. It'll knock the crap out of ya!

If you do get a bad one or if one fails, MSD repairs them for around $80 last time I checked.

There's other ignitions on the market. The only other I have used is a Jacobs and it's been running trouble free since 1991.

Hope this helps.

jacobs electronics

Don't work on 22REs.............

Mine had a off-idle hesitation every time you would press on the gas from idle.

Jacobs sent me 2 other boxes and they all did the same thing.

Finally moved the box to my Pontiac V8 (no problems there)..........

Although MSD says to hook up the thick red wire the battery, don't do it that way.

Run the power thru a relay (turned on by ignition source) and a 20 amp fuse........................

What's a DUI from jacobs?

I'm thinking omni-pack.    Blue finned aluminum all-in-one box with ignition wire post on it.

my bad, jacobs doesn't make the DUI, but yes, the blue aluminum finned box is the omni pack.  here is a link to the DUI.  havn't heard much about them, but here it is...

honestly though, i think the stock ignition does great.  i really don't see any reason to upgrade it.  just my  :twocents:
