Fuel Cell in the Minitruck
« on: Jan 18, 2003, 02:21:11 PM »

I haven't been on the puter lately so I've missed some good things.

Anyway, I'm tired of my puny 12 gallon tank under the minitruck.  I've decided to go with a Summit 20 gallon fuel cell (alloy) this will feed a Holley electro pump into a Holley 390c.f.m. 4bbl carb on a D.O.A. 20r/22r hybrid motor.   Should be fun ;D ;D ;D

Questions I have,  throw the tank in the bed, or figure out how to install it underneath,?  and do I vent it with a tiny K&N filter up high or run it into a charcoal canister into the giant and I mean giant K&N Air filter on the carb?

Anyone who has worked with fuel cells and has set them up, I'd appreciate a little help, thanks

The fittings on the Summit fuel cell are huge. You'll have to Study the AN type fittings in the summit catalog to adapt to your needs. It has 2 fuel ports at the bottom(8AN male), you can block one off if you don't use a circulating type system.

Not sure on the venting but it has 2 ports on top(6AN male), one with a rollover valve. I think I would block the open fitting and use the rollover valve equipped fitting for a vent to a charcoal cannister or however your system is normally vented.

27-AT, some other adapter, flipped D300, twin sticks on cables.

:)
thanks  for the advice, I plan on running a second fuel pump on the second outlet.  This will allow me to switch pumps from the  dash  if one  should develope vapor lock or fail alltogether.

I have all the AN fittings already, just wasn't sure which venting method I should use,  I'm fairly sure I'll run the tank in the bed and out of the rocks, but I'll keep the pumps underneath for safety and to keep air moving over the pump surface, plus it will allow a full gravity fed setup,  better for bumpy trails.

I vote under the bed with an access door. Keep the center of gravity low.
