i have the front range Tacoma break kit on my 85 and it is one of the best mods i have done.i just test drove a 85 4 runner with high steer fj rotors and ifs calipers (same as my old setup) with land cruiser master and i felt like it would not stop!i let the guy drive my truck and he was sold on the kit!my set up is 92 4 runner master and booster, tied up lspv, front range brackets for callipers, swap knuckles from driver to passenger, ifs hub turned down to fit inside a factory 2000 tacoma rotor, and tacoma calipers.added bonus is to change the birf all you have to do is take off the hub dial. pull the snap ring and remove the 8 bolts holding the spindle on the knuckles. !!!!! no wheel bearings need to be touched!!!also to do a brake job, just pull the caliper!!only way to fly!
You can use stock ifs hubs and calipers with taco rotors and bolt the caliper from the other side and it will do the same as this but not cost anything!
really, is this common? i have not heard about it. id like to see it though,
Here are a few pics of my set-upI got the idea from a guy on PirateI used the 4 large piston calipers with taco rotors. I just ground the outside of the IFS hub to let the taco rotor slide over it. I just left it on the IFS spindles and pressed hard with a grinder so it spun while I pressed. Ground evenly this way. I just bolted it from the other direction. I used a washer to space it evenly, you can barely see it in the pics. Works great, I have tested with many hard stops on 35's.
you had to do more machine work though. i did the IFS hubs, FJ rotors and V6 Calipers on my 90 4runner and that was the biggest PITA of a conversion. this is MUCH cleaner and straight forward. and makes changing birfs and rotors... a BREEZE!I can do a walk-thru if anyone is interested.
I will do one tomorrow with pics. its straight forward.
Cool cool, looking forward to it. Did you use the fror kit?
Hey Jake, I forgot about yours!Only difference is I barely did any grinding on the caliper, in fact i used a flap disk on bleeder half of the caliper and clearenced it just a hair. everything else was straight forward. I was kind of surprised on how much material needs to be removed on the hub.
